The year was 2008. The month? October! That’s when I decided to buy the book “The Secret.” I read it. I couldn’t BELIEVE life could be SO EASY!
You just had to think… and become rich? I had to try it. I needed that check in the mail.
Well, soon enough, I realized it wasn’t THAT simple.
Until that book, I lived according to other people’s limiting beliefs—thinking I was destined to be born, grow up, get married, have kids, and die.
But deep inside, I knew life couldn’t be just that. I always wanted more. I always NEEDED more. And not just money! I’m too curious to accept what others tell me without checking for myself. I was NEVER okay with so-called dogma.
Since 2008, I’ve read dozens of books on the subject, listened to countless audiobooks, read opinions, forum discussions, blog, you name it.
During this journey, I discovered five books that truly changed my mindset and my life.
You can heal your life, by Louise Hay
Louise Hay saves my mind and life every single day. Once you realize her power, you want to listen to her every day.
Here’s a precious quote: “You’ve been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”
What changed in me: I started treating myself like someone I love.
The idea that self-perception shapes our reality is not just spiritual wisdom. According to Greater Good Magazine, research in positive psychology consistently shows that the way we speak to ourselves has a measurable impact on our emotional resilience, motivation, and capacity for change. Louise Hay understood this long before it became mainstream science.
Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill
Many successful people recommend this book. Even Bruce Lee applied its principles and achieved exactly what he envisioned.
Here’s an important quote:
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
What changed in me: I stopped waiting for permission and started chasing what I wanted.
Taking that first step requires more than mindset: The Power of Accountability: Taking Ownership of Your Life.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, by Joseph Murphy
This book helped me truly understand the difference between the subconscious and conscious minds, and just how powerful the subconscious is. It taught me the importance of reprogramming it intentionally.
Murphy explains that our deepest beliefs run our lives—and that we can change them through repetition, visualization, and emotion.
Here’s a key quote:
“Change your thoughts, and you change your destiny.”
What changed in me: I became more intentional with my nightly thoughts and affirmations.
If these ideas resonate with you, I also wrote about putting them into practice: Manifestation: Turning Thoughts Into Reality.
Feeling is The Secret, by Neville Goddard
This book changed the way I approached visualization.
Here’s an essential quote:
“Assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled.”
What changed in me: I began to live as if my dreams were already mine.
The Game of Life and How to Play It, by Florence Scovel Shinn
Here’s a remarkable quote:
“If one asks for success and prepares for failure, he will get the situation he has prepared for.”
What changed in me: I started affirming what I wanted instead of worrying about what I feared.
Conclusion
Each of these books came to me at the right time and offered a new layer of self-awareness, empowerment, and inner peace. They didn’t just change my thoughts. They changed my life.
If you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, or disconnected, maybe one of these titles will be the spark you need.
Growth starts within, and reading, for me, has always been a way to come home to myself.
And if you are ready to go deeper, this one might be the next step: Why We Repeat the Same Mistakes: And How to Finally Break the Cycle.
And… what day is it today? SA-TUR-DAY! Which means… ME TIME!
I’m now moving on to the series. One that I kind of liked just started its 3rd season: The Wheel of Time! I’ll watch the first two episodes — let’s see if I jump from “kind of” to really like it!
Well, I’ve been experimenting with low-carb drinks. Today, I ventured into making a strawberry and rum cocktail. It looks and tastes good. I’m getting better at this whole drink-making thingy!
Bye-bye!
