If you are searching for Christmas school break activities in Lisbon, here are simple, realistic and family friendly plans that actually work during the holidays.

These suggestions combine indoor comfort, free outdoor time and affordable plans you can use throughout the holidays.

Pavilhão do Conhecimento

Visit the interactive science museum located in Expo inside the Pavilhão do Conhecimento. It is warm, safe and full of hands on exhibits. Children explore lights, movement, electricity and physical experiences that keep them busy for hours. This is perfect for cold or rainy days and ideal for different ages.

I have a complete post about our visit with photos and honest feedback. It shows exactly what to expect during the experience.

Oceanário de Lisboa

The Oceanário de Lisboa is one of the most popular attractions during the Christmas school break. Kids stay focused the entire time thanks to the giant aquarium, sharks, rays and penguins. It is fully indoors, warm and perfect for cold December days.

I documented our experience at the Oceanarium with photos and impressions. You can read it here.

Wonderland Lisboa and Other Christmas Markets

Christmas markets in Lisbon attract families every year. The biggest one is Wonderland Lisboa, with rides, lights and seasonal snacks. Entry is free and it is a great afternoon plan during the holidays.

You can also explore smaller Christmas markets around the city for crafts and festive decorations. These change every year but remain extremely searched during December.

KidZania Lisboa

Inside the shopping complex UBBO at Amadora sits KidZania Lisboa, one of the most requested school break activities by parents. The mini city allows kids to try different jobs and explore independently in a safe environment. It is a long indoor activity, perfect when you need a full afternoon covered.

A Walk in Parque das Nações

If you want a free and simple activity, a walk by the river at the modern area of Parque das Nações is a great option. Children can enjoy the playgrounds, scooters, waterfront views and open air movement without needing a structured plan.

This is helpful for days when you want fresh air without the cost of tickets.

Indoor Playgrounds

Indoor playgrounds are lifesavers during winter. Trampoline parks, soft play areas inside shopping spaces and sports activity centres give children the chance to run, jump and burn energy in a safe space. They require minimal preparation and are usually available without long waits.

Choose one close to home for convenience during the busy holiday season.

Museu da Marioneta

For a quieter cultural activity, the Museu da Marioneta is ideal. It is small, calm and introduces children to puppetry and performance art in a relaxed environment. It works well as a morning outing and is usually less crowded than the major attractions.

A Simple Home Day with Christmas Movies and Crafts

Not every day needs to be outside. Some of the most relaxing holiday moments happen at home with a Christmas movie and simple crafts. You can create a cozy corner with blankets, a warm drink and a small snack. Craft ideas can include paper stars, simple colouring pages or easy DIY ornaments.

What We Are Doing This Year

Our plan this year is a mix of outdoor movement and comfortable indoor visits. We are returning to the Pavilhão do Conhecimento and planning a few winter walks in Parque das Nações. These activities keep the holidays calm, structured and enjoyable without pressure.
