Me time! Does anyone know what this means? My time…my moment…

How many adults make a point of dedicating some time to themselves? Only for you. To be able to be with yourself, doing what you like and need to maintain good mental health.

I only understood its importance recently.

When we are young, we prioritize doing what we like. We have fewer responsibilities, so it’s easy to make the most of life.

And that’s what I did. Until I became a mother.

I made the mistake of giving up on myself. I stopped having leisure time. My whole life was dedicated to my daughter and family. Meanwhile, around me, those I “cared for” continued to have their “me time”.

Bad, bad girl I was! Never do that! I won’t make this mistake again.

I decided that I must have my moments. My “Me Time”.

In May 2023, the month of my birthday, I decided to treat myself to a weekend in Tróia… completely alone! I left my daughter with my sister and left in my car towards freedom, which I hadn’t had since Felisberta was born. I love my daughter very much, but anyone who is a mother (or present father) will understand.

And it was extremely liberating! Not having to worry about anything or anyone, being with my thoughts, doing everything at the pace I want.

I walked… along the beach, read a lot, sunbathed, savored the sea breeze, the landscape, nature. I entered heaven! I loved eating alone, sleeping alone, walking alone and above all… being alone!

Since then I made the decision to have my moment. Moment when I do something I enjoy alone.

For me, it has become important to have leisure time with my daughter, but also alone. Even when I get back into a relationship with someone, this moment of mine cannot stop. And I will encourage the other person to do the same. It’s not going out with friends, family, etc. It’s doing something with me and only me!

We are born alone and we will die alone. It’s better to learn to love ourselves so much that we enjoy being just with ourselves. Don’t get me wrong. I know we are social beings. But we are also unique beings. And the best way to get to know each other well is to be with us. At least for me it’s important.

So, in addition to the gym, which I love, every Saturday evening, after putting Felisberta to bed, I free myself up and dedicate a few hours to myself.

I watch a movie, TV shows, read a good book and have whatever drink I feel like at the moment. It could be tea, Martini, Licor Beirão, Port, etc. Whatever I feel like, at that moment, which is just mine…

Today I will watch a film that I saw for the first time with my sister Dainete and cousin Hermitério. Ah… I miss our cinema sessions, which included McDonalds and popcorn that we purposely bought at the cinema to eat at home 😁!

The film is called “The Others” and has an incredible twist. What a fantastic horror film! So many years later I will watch it again. Uuuuuuu….. will I be able to sleep… I think the Martini will help… Hahahaha!

Goodnight! 😘
