What Makes Tróia Such a Peaceful Getaway
Tróia is beautiful, quiet and perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation in Tróia. The peninsula belongs to Grândola, in Portugal, and is known for its beaches, calm atmosphere and clean views over the Sado River.
I wanted a peaceful weekend with no pressure, and Tróia was exactly what I needed.

Where I Stayed
The first time I went to Tróia was almost 5 years ago. We rented a house and enjoyed the weekend.
This time, I decided to stay in Tróia Design Hotel. I booked on Booking.com. The hotel is modern, clean and spacious. Check-in was simple, and the staff was very helpful. It was the ideal place for a quiet escape and a bit of self-care.
I love Booking.com because I can see people’s reviews and have an idea of what to expect.
There’s nothing more liberating than going on vacation by yourself. It was my first time. My sister offered to stay with my daughter for the weekend (bless her ❤️) and there I went – to Tróia. From Friday to Sunday, just me, myself and I – or so I thought 😉!
From Lisbon to Tróia, by car, was about 1 hour and 40 minutes. To avoid the ferry, I decided to go through Vasco da Gama Bridge. It is a toll road, so you have to pay a fee. Very nice ride, calm, almost empty roads.
First Impressions
I arrived at 7:00 pm, checked in and, because I was tired, I decided to go to the hotel’s buffet restaurant. Then back to the hotel room, showered and rested. The room was very spacious, clean, with everything I needed and more.

The next morning I was ready to really enjoy my vacation. I decided to order room service – breakfast! Really nice service. Efficient and on time.

Exploring Tróia
After breakfast, I decided to explore the surroundings. Because my intent was to rest, I went to the beach, enjoyed a good walk, rented a beach umbrella and just relaxed. I listened to music, read my book and met new people. Yes, I went to be with myself, but managed to make friends. It was really nice.

Lunch was at a restaurant, outdoor, what was not a good idea, because we hardly could eat with all the flys wanting to taste our food. At least the company was good.

A Grom ice cream later (jeez, it’s so good – first time tasting it – I know 🙄) and we decided to explore the place a little more.

Dining and Relaxation
Dinner was at a seafood restaurant and the evening was pleasant, listening to live music at the hotel, in good company. I was offered a mojito (which was really nice 🥰, specially because it has been a while since I had one, and this one was very well prepared). By the way, what’s up with the paper/card straws? After a while I had to remove the straw and drink the mojito straight from the glass, because the straw became useless. I understand we must save the planet, but I hope we’ll come up with something better.

Final Thoughts
Sunday morning, the last day, I was very well rested and ready to go back home. I missed my daughter and wanted to go back to my life.
After breakfast, I checked out and drove home.
It was a really nice stay. I recommend Tróia for a relaxing vacation. We see a lot of families, couples and singles. People are really friendly and helpful. There are good restaurants, supermarket, coffee shops, outdoor events, like outdoor cinema, casino and more. You can rent a place or book a hotel room. It’s all good. I have no complaints. Staff was very friendly.
Bear in mind, things are expensive there. So do your research before going. But it’s always manageable.
I really enjoyed my vacation, there is much more to explore in Tróia. But my goal was achieved – to rest and relax.
