A relaxing vacation in Tróia was exactly what I needed. I did not want a complicated trip, a packed itinerary or a weekend full of plans. I wanted rest, sea views, quiet walks, good food, a comfortable hotel and that rare feeling of having time that belonged only to me.

The first time I went to Tróia was almost five years ago. We rented a house and enjoyed the weekend as a family. This time, the experience was completely different. My sister offered to stay with my daughter for the weekend, bless her ❤️, and I decided to go alone from Friday to Sunday. Just me, myself and I, or so I thought. 😏

There is something quite liberating about going on vacation by yourself, especially when life is usually full of responsibilities, schedules and people needing something from you. I packed a small bag, booked the hotel and drove to Tróia with one very clear goal: rest and relax.

And honestly, Tróia gave me exactly that.

What Makes Tróia Such a Peaceful Getaway

Tróia is a beautiful place for a relaxing vacation in Portugal, especially if the goal is beach, calm walks, good food and quiet views over the Sado River. It has that coastal feeling without making everything feel too busy. The beach is open and bright, the marina gives you somewhere pleasant to walk, and the hotel area feels easy enough for a short escape.

For this solo weekend, I wanted rest, space and no pressure. Tróia worked beautifully because it gave me enough to enjoy without making me feel that I had to run around trying to see everything.

Sometimes that is exactly what a relaxing vacation needs: a beautiful place, a comfortable room, simple food, a few walks and enough silence to let the body understand that it is allowed to slow down.

Plan Your Next Trip With Less Stress

Before going further, I created a free travel planner printable to help keep the practical details in one place. It is useful for accommodation, transport, budget, packing notes and those small reminders that always seem obvious until we are tired and trying to remember everything at once.

For this Tróia weekend, I did not want a strict plan. That would have defeated the whole point of going away to rest. However, having the basic details organised made the trip feel much calmer before it even started.

The planner is simple on purpose. It gives the trip some structure without turning the whole thing into another job.

Where I Stayed

This time, I stayed at Tróia Design Hotel. I booked it through Booking.com because I like being able to read people’s reviews and have a realistic idea of what to expect before arriving. The hotel was modern, clean and spacious, and check in was simple. The staff were helpful, which always makes a difference when you arrive tired and just want things to go smoothly.

From Lisbon to Tróia, by car, it took me about one hour and forty minutes. To avoid the ferry, I went through Vasco da Gama Bridge. It is a toll road, so there is a fee, but the drive was calm and easy, with almost empty roads. Very nice, actually.

I arrived around 7 pm, checked in and, because I was tired, decided to go to the hotel’s buffet restaurant. After that, I went back to the room, showered and rested. Nothing dramatic. Nothing exciting. Exactly what I wanted. 😁

The room was spacious, clean and had everything I needed. After a week of normal life, work, motherhood and all the usual mental noise, a quiet hotel room can feel like a small miracle. I could leave my things where I wanted, take my time, look around, breathe and not answer to anyone for a few hours.

That alone was worth the trip.

First Impressions

My first impression was that Tróia is easy to enjoy when the goal is to slow down. The hotel area felt calm, the marina was close enough for a walk, and the beach was exactly the kind of place where you can sit, breathe and remember that life does not always have to be a race.

The next morning, I woke up ready to really enjoy my vacation. I decided to order room service for breakfast, and it was a very good decision. Really nice service, efficient and on time.

There is something delightful about breakfast arriving in the room when you are on your own. No rushing, no conversation before the brain has properly switched on, no need to look presentable immediately. Just breakfast, quiet and the feeling that the day can start slowly.

Very civilized. I approve. 😁

Exploring Tróia

After breakfast, I decided to explore the surroundings. Since my intention was to rest, I went to the beach, enjoyed a good walk, rented a beach umbrella and just relaxed. I listened to music, read my book and met new people.

Yes, I went to be with myself and still managed to make friends. Typical. 😅

The beach was one of the best parts of the weekend. The light, the sea, the open space, the feeling of being away without actually being too far from home. It was simple, but it worked.

I did not feel the need to fill the day with activities. I walked, looked around, took photos, listened to music and let the hours pass. That was the whole point. Sometimes the most restful part of a trip is not what we do. It is the fact that we are not constantly thinking about the next thing.

Lunch was at an outdoor restaurant, which seemed like a lovely idea until the flies also decided they wanted to participate in the meal. We could hardly eat with all of them wanting to taste our food. At least the company was good. 😁

A Sweet Stop and More Walking

Later, we had a Grom ice cream and decided to explore the place a little more. Ice cream always improves a day. This is not science, but I stand by it. 😁

The marina area is very pleasant for walking. Boats, water, light, people moving around slowly, that relaxed summer feeling. It gave the trip another rhythm and made the day feel fuller without becoming tiring.

That is one thing I liked about Tróia. You can have a calm day and still feel that you did something. A beach walk, a simple lunch, an ice cream, a stroll near the marina, a bit of reading, some music. Nothing complicated, but enough to make the weekend feel special.

Dining and Relaxation

Dinner was at a seafood restaurant, and the evening was pleasant, with live music at the hotel and good company. I was offered a mojito, which was really nice, especially because it had been a while since I had one, and this one was very well prepared. 😋

By the way, what is happening with paper and cardboard straws? After a while, I had to remove the straw and drink the mojito straight from the glass because the straw became completely useless. I understand that we must save the planet, of course, but I really hope someone comes up with something better. 🙏🏾

The evening had that relaxed holiday feeling I wanted. Food, music, conversation, sea air and no rush. It was not a wild night out, and that was perfectly fine. I was there to rest, not to pretend I had suddenly become a party person. Let’s not exaggerate. 😁

Why This Trip Felt So Good

This Tróia weekend felt good because it gave me a change of scenery without demanding too much from me. I did not need a long flight, a complicated plan or a big budget holiday abroad. I needed a peaceful place in Portugal where I could rest, walk, eat, sleep, take photos and feel like myself again.

The prices felt higher than in some other places I usually visit, but the weekend still felt manageable. For me, it was worth it because the goal was very simple: rest, quiet and a change of scenery.

And the goal was achieved.

There is a moment in some trips when the body finally understands that it can stop. For me, that happened in Tróia. Maybe it was the beach, maybe it was the hotel room, maybe it was breakfast arriving at the door, maybe it was the fact that I did not have to explain every little decision. Probably all of it together.

Whatever it was, it worked.

Who Might Enjoy a Relaxing Vacation in Tróia

Tróia can work well for families, couples, groups and solo travellers. During the weekend, I saw a bit of everything: families enjoying the beach, couples walking around, people having meals outside, and also people like me, just wanting a calm escape.

There are restaurants, a supermarket, coffee shops, outdoor events, a casino and places to walk. You can rent a place or book a hotel room, depending on the kind of stay you prefer. I stayed at the hotel because, for this trip, I wanted comfort and simplicity.

For a short relaxing vacation in Portugal, Tróia makes sense if you like beach, quiet views, hotel comfort and easy walks. It is not the kind of place where I would go to rush around with a giant itinerary. For me, the beauty of Tróia is precisely the slower rhythm.

Final Thoughts

Sunday morning was the last day, and I felt rested and ready to go back home. I missed my daughter and wanted to return to my life, which is always a good sign. A proper break does not make us want to disappear forever. It helps us come back a little lighter.

After breakfast, I checked out and drove home.

It was a really nice stay. I recommend Tróia for a relaxing vacation if the goal is rest, quiet, sea views and a change of scenery. People were friendly and helpful, the hotel staff were very kind, the beach was beautiful, and the whole weekend gave me exactly what I needed.

I really enjoyed my vacation. There is still much more to explore in Tróia, but this time my goal was simple: rest and relax.

Mission accomplished. 😁
