This is my honest Les Mills Core review after doing the 30-minute class twice a week. LES MILLS CORE is a low-impact workout designed to strengthen your core, glutes and back, and it is offered in both 30-minute and 45-minute formats. It uses a mix of bodyweight work, resistance bands and weight plates, with options for different fitness levels.

I started doing this class because core work has always been very challenging for me. It was not the kind of workout I was naturally drawn to, and in the beginning I had to make myself do it. But over time, this class became one of the workouts I genuinely enjoy the most.

LES MILLS CORE is a structured core training workout that targets the muscles that support your torso, glutes and back. According to Les Mills, the program is designed to improve strength, stability, balance and injury prevention, while remaining accessible through low-impact options and instructor guidance.

That is one of the reasons this workout stands out. It is not just random ab exercises thrown together. It is designed to train the centre of the body in a way that supports movement, posture and overall strength.

Why I Started Doing Les Mills Core

I started doing this class twice a week, 30 minutes each session, because I knew I needed to work on my core. The abdominal area has always been one of the most difficult areas for me to train consistently.

At first, this was a class I almost had to force myself to do. But a good instructor makes a huge difference. The energy, the timing, the way they coach technique and the way they carry the class can completely change the experience. That was a big part of what helped me stay with it.

What the Class Felt Like for Me

The first time I did LES MILLS CORE, I was surprised by the first track, the warm-up. I did not expect it to feel the way it did. It was a much stronger opening than I had imagined, and it immediately made me realise this class was going to be more demanding than I thought.

The second track, the plank track, is the one that still challenges me the most to this day. Even after doing this class for quite a while, that section still tests me. It is one of those moments in class that reminds you very quickly whether your core is really working or not.

My favourite part is the fourth track, where we also work the glutes. That one is incredibly fun for me. The music and the resistance band make it very enjoyable, but also extremely intense in the best way. It burns, but in a way that feels motivating rather than discouraging.

30 Minutes vs 45 Minutes

I also had the chance to try the 45-minute version of LES MILLS CORE. The program is officially available in both 30-minute and 45-minute formats.

Personally, I feel that 30 minutes is enough for me. It gives me the challenge I need without feeling excessive. For my routine, that format works very well and feels sustainable.

What Les Mills Core Improved for Me

What I noticed after doing this class consistently was how much easier daily movement started to feel. That was one of the biggest things for me.

I felt that:

  • everyday movements became easier

  • my core strength improved a lot

  • I felt stronger through the middle of my body

  • the class became more enjoyable as I got better at it

That combination makes a huge difference. There are workouts that may be effective, but if you dislike every minute of them, it is much harder to stay consistent. LES MILLS CORE became a class I actually look forward to.

Officially, LES MILLS CORE includes exercises that target the abs, obliques, glutes and lower back, often using resistance tubes or bands, weight plates and bodyweight moves such as planks, crunches and hovers. Les Mills also describes the workout as low impact and suitable for different levels because the moves come with options.

In practical terms, you should expect a class that challenges control, stability and endurance more than flashy movement. Even though it is only 30 minutes, it can feel very intense when the instructor is good and the class is delivered well.

Who I Think Les Mills Core Is Good For

Based on both the official description and my own experience, I think LES MILLS CORE is a great option for:

  • people who want a stronger core

  • anyone who struggles with posture and stability

  • people who want a low-impact but still challenging class

  • those who need structure to stay consistent with core training

  • anyone who wants to support other workouts with stronger foundations

Les Mills states that the workout is suitable for everyone and includes low-impact options, which makes it more accessible than many people expect.

Is Les Mills Core Good for Beginners?

Yes, I think beginners can do it, but they should expect to be challenged. Les Mills says the class includes options for all fitness levels and low-impact alternatives.

My honest view is that beginners can absolutely start, but they should not assume it will feel easy just because it is low impact. Core weakness shows up very quickly in this class. That is part of what makes it effective.



Is Les Mills Core Good for Weight Loss?

Not directly.

LES MILLS CORE is not primarily a calorie-burn workout in the way a high-intensity cardio class is. But it can support a weight loss routine indirectly by improving strength, stability and movement quality, which can help in other forms of training too. Les Mills also links the program to improved functional fitness and overall performance.

So if weight loss is the main goal, I would see this class as support work inside a bigger routine, not as the only workout.

Equipment Used in Les Mills Core

Les Mills lists weight plates and a resistance band as standard equipment for LES MILLS CORE. If you want to do LES MILLS CORE at home, a good set of weight plates makes a big difference.

In clubs, the equipment is normally provided. At home, Les Mills recommends the appropriate equipment plus comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, a drink bottle and a towel.

From my own experience, the resistance band can make a huge difference to the feel of the class, especially in the more glute-focused sections. A strong resistance band can completely change how this class feels, especially in the glute work.

A supportive exercise mat also makes floor work much more comfortable.

How Often Should You Do Les Mills Core?

Les Mills recommends doing LES MILLS CORE two to three times per week, ideally with a day off in between.

That lines up well with my own routine, since I started with two sessions a week and found that frequency effective and realistic.

My Final Thoughts

LES MILLS CORE started as a class I had to make myself do because core training was one of my weakest areas. Over time, it became one of the classes I enjoy most.

It is challenging, useful, fun and surprisingly satisfying once you begin to feel stronger. For me, one of the best parts is knowing that this class is doing something important for my health while also being a workout I genuinely enjoy.
