Body Balance Review upward dog pose during the stretch sequence, showing flexibility and core engagement

This is my honest Body Balance review as a real student of the program. Body Balance is the Les Mills program that surprised me the most, challenged me the most, and helped me reconnect with my body in ways I didn’t expect. I discovered it in 2023, after returning to the gym following many years of not training consistently. I walked into the studio with zero expectations. I didn’t know the choreography, I didn’t understand the flow, and I had no idea how powerful this class would become in my fitness routine.

I remember watching people move during the warm-up and thinking how beautiful and calm everything looked. Then I tried it, and I fell in love. I’ve practised Body Balance ever since, both at the gym and at home with Les Mills+. In this article I’m going to explain what this program is, what each track feels like from a real student’s perspective, and why I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve mobility, posture, awareness and calm.

This is Body Balance through my eyes.

What Body Balance Is and Why I Love It

Body Balance blends three disciplines: Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. Everything is choreographed to music, which gives the class a sense of flow and intention. It feels structured but artistic, strong but gentle, grounding but energising.

For me, it’s one of the most complete programs Les Mills has ever created. It works your mobility, your strength, your balance, your flexibility and your mind. Every class feels like a journey: you start a little tense or distracted, and you end grounded, open and calm.

If you want to explore all my Les Mills reviews and routines in one place, start here.

Track 1: Warm-Up – The Beginning of the Flow

The warm-up can be Tai Chi or Yoga depending on the release. Tai Chi warm-ups are incredibly beautiful, very fluid, almost like moving meditation. But I personally enjoy the Yoga warm-ups even more. They feel more familiar to me and prepare my body better for what comes next.

This is where you start connecting to your breath, loosening your joints and waking up the body gently.

Track 2: Sun Salutations – My Favourite Part of the Whole Class

I adore Sun Salutations. The transitions, the flow, the music, everything aligns. There’s something deeply satisfying about going from downward dog to plank, and then into cobra or upward dog.

I still can’t do the smooth, strong transition from plank to upward dog without modifying. I’ve seen instructors do it so beautifully, and every time I think, “Wow. One day I’ll get there.” That’s the magic of training. You push your body, you learn the movement, and eventually your body delivers.

Sun Salutation is where I feel the most alive in this program.

Track 3: Standing Strength – The Track That Makes Me Sweat

This track brings the warriors, lunges and strong standing poses. And trust me, you will sweat.

This is the moment in class when I start thinking, “Okay, here we go.”
Your legs work hard, your heart rate rises, and your focus sharpens.

Before joining the gym, I used to describe exercises as “difficult.” Now I say “challenging,” because challenges are meant to be overcome. And that shift changed how I train. This track is challenging for me, but so rewarding.

If you enjoy challenging tracks like this one, you might also like the strength side of Les Mills. I wrote about my Grit Strength & Core experience here.

Track 4: Balance – The Most Beautiful Part of Body Balance

Balance tracks are stunning. They combine elegance, strength and poise. And there’s nothing quite like the feeling of finally mastering a balance pose you’ve been struggling with.

Every time I manage to hold a pose cleanly, I feel proud. I feel competent. I feel connected to myself. It’s one of the most satisfying parts of the program.

Track 5: Core (Depending on the Class Length)

At the gym, I usually did the 45-minute format, which doesn’t include core tracks. But on Les Mills+ you get the full 55-minute version, with standing core and floor core work.

To be honest, I normally skip the core tracks at home and go straight to the twists, hamstrings and hip openers. Not because they’re not good. They are excellent. I just prefer stretching work in this phase of the class, because it feels more aligned with what my body needs.

Track 6: Twists, Hamstrings and Hip Openers – Stretching That Actually Feels Good

This track is heaven and hell at the same time. Yes, it hurts. But it feels so good.

You feel the tension leaving your body. You feel space returning to your hips. You feel your spine decompressing. You feel stress dissolving. It’s the kind of discomfort that teaches you something about yourself.

In daily life, we sit too much, move too little, and rarely stretch enough. Body Balance brings stretching back into the routine in a structured, intentional way.

Track 7: Meditation and Relaxation – My Favourite Moment

The first time I did Body Balance, I didn’t expect this track at all. When the instructor told us:

“Find a comfortable position. Relax. Close your eyes.”

I thought:
“This is exactly what I need.”

Their voice becomes soft, the music settles, and suddenly you’re on a mental journey. This part of the class is incredibly relaxing. It’s so relaxing that some people literally fall asleep. I did once.

For anyone who has trouble slowing down or meditating during the day, this track is a gift. It’s my favourite moment. It makes the whole session feel complete.

If you’re curious about how Body Balance contrasts with more explosive programs, I shared that experience here as well.

What Body Balance Did for Me: Real Benefits

After practising Body Balance regularly, I noticed:

  • better posture
  • improved balance
  • more body awareness
  • hip and shoulder mobility
  • core engagement
  • reduced stress
  • deeper relaxation
  • better sleep on the days I practise

But the biggest benefit for me is mental. Body Balance makes me slow down, breathe and reconnect.

Equipment I Recommend

A good yoga mat changes everything in Body Balance.

You need:

  • stability
  • good grip
  • non-slip texture
  • comfortable padding for knees
  • a surface that doesn’t move during transitions

Who Can Do Body Balance? Everyone.

One of the things I love about this program is how inclusive it is.

Whether you’re:

  • experienced in yoga
  • brand new to movement
  • stiff
  • unfit
  • recovering
  • older
  • younger

you can do Body Balance.

Instructors always offer options: easier, stronger, deeper, lighter. You choose what serves you. And over time, you progress naturally.

You will sweat.
You will shake.
You might fall asleep in relaxation.
It’s all part of the journey.

Is Body Balance Good for Weight Loss?

Not directly.

It’s not cardio-intensive, and it doesn’t burn as many calories as high-intensity programs. But it absolutely supports weight loss indirectly by:

  • reducing stress
  • improving sleep
  • improving posture (which influences movement efficiency)
  • increasing mobility
  • helping you stay consistent with training

A relaxed, mobile body is easier to train — and consistency leads to results.

I’m documenting my training consistency in my Dream Pyramid journey, and you can start here.
