Body Step launch classes have a very specific energy: the room feels more excited, the instructors bring something extra, and the workout often feels more intense than a regular class. In this Body Step launch class review, I’m sharing my honest experience as a fitness student, including what the event felt like, what I loved most, what challenged me, and whether I think this type of event is worth attending.
This was not just another group fitness class for me. It was a full room, a one-hour Body Step session, two instructors, strong choreography, plenty of intensity, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you remember why fitness events can be so motivating.

Before the Event: Why I Went
I went to this Body Step launch class because Body Step has become one of those classes that genuinely makes me excited. It is demanding, it requires focus, and it pushes both the body and the mind.
Launch classes also have a different feeling from regular weekly classes. There is usually more energy in the room, instructors are presenting new choreography, people are curious, and the whole class feels more like an event than a normal workout.
For me, this was also a chance to experience the one-hour version of Body Step. I already knew that the shorter version could wipe me out, so I knew this would be a serious challenge.
BURPEES…BURPEES…BURPEES! Now THAT is how you make Suzike happy! Bring them all! I LOVE IT!
Today I went to the Launch class of Body Step at Solinca Colombo. And what a class, people! A love affair confirmed!
The class was taught by Rita Calaz (who I know incredibly well, and who is amazing) and by Catarina Gomes, who is absolutely magnificent!
Full room, great vibes all around, introductions were made and we got started. The steps were already set up around the room. This is a full-on luxury, people! Don’t get used to it. On regular days, everyone goes to grab their own! We only had to pick the right riser height for us. The instructors used 10kg risers! No, the thought of joining that adventure never even crossed my mind… Today, I stuck with the 5kg ones.
This class ran for a full hour. I showed up a little nervous, since the 30-minute version already wipes me out. Well, the 1-hour version does too, but once my great love made an appearance (burpees), I completely forgot about the suffering. I’m in love, people!
I did the entire warm-up track, because it really matters. After that, I mixed the workout with filming.
The students kept up throughout, and from what I could see, they loved it, even though you could clearly feel the intensity getting to them. That’s exactly why it’s so great that the instructors always offer lower-intensity alternatives.
Body Step works your coordination and concentration hard. Lose focus for even a second and… boom, you’re off the step!
We had glute exercises (a mention was made of a gentleman who is quite the expert on the subject, and whose Booty Training Day is still very much missed), push-ups, burpees, squats, high knees, you name it. This is a VERY COMPLETE class, and an incredibly FUN one!
I didn’t even notice the time going by. When they wrapped up, my first thought was: ALREADY?! Nooo… I wanted more… And there will be more… at a Solinca near you…
“Les Mills is a gift that keeps on giving.” I am constantly discovering MAGNIFICENT classes that demand everything from me, and that allow me to reach fitness levels I never thought possible.
And the best part is that it introduces me to extraordinary instructors who, with their professionalism and energy, inspire us to keep pushing further and further. Today, that was Catarina Gomes and Rita Calaz. Two phenomenal instructors who gave us an excellent workout, loads of fun, warmth, and incredible energy. MAGNIFICENT!

What This Event Felt Like as a Student
As a student, this event felt energetic, intense and very motivating. The full room made a difference because Body Step feeds a lot from collective energy. When everyone is moving, reacting, sweating and trying to keep up, the class feels bigger than the workout itself.
The strongest part of the experience was the balance between challenge and support. The class was clearly intense, but it did not feel careless or chaotic. The instructors gave options, which matters a lot in a class like Body Step because not everyone has the same fitness level, confidence, step height or coordination.
This is important from a student perspective: a good fitness event should feel exciting, but it should still feel manageable. This one did.
What I Loved Most
What I loved most was the energy of the class. A Body Step launch has a special kind of momentum because the music, the choreography and the instructors’ presence all work together.
The burpees were also a highlight for me. I know they are not everyone’s favourite, but in this class they added that strong, athletic feeling that makes Body Step so satisfying.
I also loved how complete the workout felt. This was not only cardio. It included coordination, lower-body work, glutes, push-ups, squats, high knees and a lot of concentration. From a student’s point of view, that makes the class feel worth the effort because you leave feeling that you worked your whole body.
What Was Challenging
The biggest challenge was the duration and intensity. A one-hour Body Step class is very different from a shorter class, especially when the workout includes strong cardio sections, step work, burpees and bodyweight exercises.
The coordination is also a real challenge. Body Step is not a class where you can completely switch off mentally. You need to pay attention to the step, the choreography, the transitions and the instructor’s cues.
For beginners or anyone returning to fitness, the intensity may feel high. That does not mean the class is impossible, but it does mean that lower-impact options are important.
Is This Event Beginner-Friendly?
This event can be beginner-friendly if the person is willing to use modifications and keep the step height manageable. However, I would not describe a one-hour Body Step launch class as the easiest first group fitness event for someone who has never done step before.
A beginner could attend, but they should go with realistic expectations. The goal should not be to follow everything perfectly. The goal should be to move, observe, use the lower-intensity options and get familiar with the format.
For someone completely new to step classes, a shorter Body Step class or a regular non-launch class may be a smoother first experience.
Who This Event Is Best For
This Body Step event is best for people who enjoy energetic group fitness classes, music-driven workouts and cardio sessions that require both physical effort and mental focus.
It is also a strong option for people who like workouts that feel fun rather than repetitive. Body Step keeps you engaged because the choreography changes, the step adds variety, and the class has a strong sense of movement.
It is especially good for students who already enjoy Les Mills classes, step workouts, athletic cardio, lower-body training and classes with a strong instructor presence.
Practical Tips Before Attending
Choose a step height that feels realistic for you. There is no need to copy advanced participants or instructors. A lower step can still give you a very effective workout.
Wear supportive trainers because the class includes quick movements, step work and high-impact options.
Arrive early if possible, especially for a launch class, because the room may be full and you will want time to set up your step properly.
Use the lower-intensity options when needed. This does not make the workout less valid. It helps you stay in the class longer and maintain better control.
Pay attention to the instructor’s cues. In Body Step, focus matters because coordination and timing are part of the workout.
Was It Worth Attending?
Yes, absolutely. This event was worth attending because it delivered what a good fitness event should deliver: strong energy, a serious workout, fun, challenge, atmosphere and motivation.
From a student perspective, it felt memorable. I did not leave thinking only about calories, difficulty or effort. I left thinking that I wanted more. That is usually the best sign that a class has worked.
Final Verdict
This Body Step launch class was intense, fun, demanding and full of energy. It challenged my cardio, coordination, legs, glutes and concentration, but it also gave me that strong feeling of excitement that makes group fitness so addictive.
As a fitness student, I would say this is the kind of event that reminds you why attending classes in person can be powerful. The music, the instructors, the people in the room and the shared effort all matter.
Final verdict: a high-energy, full-body, highly motivating Body Step event that was absolutely worth attending.
