This Zumba and Body Pump review covers one of those Saturday training days that started with dance, music and a full room, then moved into a Body Pump class that brought strength, challenge and that familiar “this is going to hurt” feeling from the warm-up.
I began with Zumba and Diana Saldanha, in a class full of choreography, cardio, student interaction and songs that made the room feel alive. After that, I moved on to Body Pump with Igor Angélico, where the workout quickly became a mix of smart weight choices, strong tracks, good humour and serious full-body effort.
It was fun, intense and a very good reminder that group fitness is about much more than just showing up.
Quick Verdict
Zumba
- Intensity: 8 out of 10
- Good for: dance cardio, coordination, rhythm, mood, student interaction and confidence
- My after class mood: happy, energised, sweaty and completely lifted by the room
Body Pump
- Intensity: 8.5 out of 10
- Good for: strength endurance, barbell work, squats, chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders and core
- My after class mood: tired, proud, challenged and very aware that staying at 32.5 kg was the right decision that day

Track Your Body Pump Progress
Body Pump progress can be hard to see from one class to the next, especially when you are slowly changing weights, rebuilding confidence, or learning which tracks challenge you most.
I created the Barbell Class Progress Tracker for women who take Body Pump or other barbell based group fitness classes and want a simple printable way to record their weights, follow their progress, and stay consistent from class to class.
Initial note: I want to clear up a misunderstanding about my workout reels and stories. A few people have told me they have been following training tips from my videos.
Please, DO NOT DO THIS! My videos have NOTHING professional about them. I simply share some moments I love from my classes. I think it is pretty obvious that what you see is amateur.
I am a Portuguese and English teacher. That is why I go to the gym: to TRAIN WITH QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
My videos are PURE ENTERTAINMENT! For me this is turning out to be a very fun journey!
If you are looking for serious guidance in the field of sport, please find a specialist.
Now, if you want to learn Portuguese and/or English, I will certainly be the right person for that .
Right then. Good morning!
Today is Saturday and the sun took advantage of yesterday’s holiday and went on vacation . We all need it around here too, right? Come back soon!
So, Zumba and Body Pump it is.
THE WORKOUT: ZUMBA + BODY PUMP
Arriving at the gym, I started my workout with Zumba and Diana Saldanha. Full room, lovely instructor, and the class began.
Note: when I saw Diana I was blown away by her leggings! WOW! She was, literally, on fire
. Loved the leggings 👌🏾! I had to film her in that look! She was stunning!
I am seeing more and more men in this class. 👏🏾 Knowing how to dance is a good thing for the gentlemen too. A man who knows how to move his body to music is extremely attractive ! Well done gentlemen!
The class was wonderful: we had “Candyman” , “Macetando”, “Mundo vai”
, “Magalenha”, among others.
There was plenty of cardio, coordination, student interaction, fun, and even the chance to choose the music 🫶🏾.
What a joy! A complete and perfect class! I absolutely let loose!
Next up was Body Pump with Igor Angélico. As always in the best mood, he let us in and, as usual, the room filled up.
When I heard Igor say that this was his favourite warm-up, I felt a chill. I immediately thought: “Oh God! It is going to hurt from the very beginning .” And it did!
During the squat track, I did not follow Igor’s recommendation to increase the weight. When I heard my name called out, I could not hold back the “Are you serious?” look . I stayed at 32.5 kg. Today was not the day. But next time, I will make the effort.
I enjoyed the chest track (mainly the music), triceps, biceps, shoulders, and even core.
EXCELLENT workout!
Every class is its own story. But there are things that repeat themselves across all of them. Beyond the great training, there are 3 details that are never overlooked in Igor’s classes: the lighting, the outfit, and his very particular music choices. His attention to detail is phenomenal and it really draws you in.
On that note, the end of year party at Solinca left a real impression on me. Especially when Igor started teaching one of the RPM tracks and his regulars made their presence felt! I thought: “WOW! The atmosphere in his classes must be something else!”
On top of that, a few days ago I saw one of his stories from an RPM class with an incredible light show . So I decided to sort things out with the babysitter and next week, as a special treat, I am going to discover Igor’s RPM world at the end of the day! I cannot wait!
Instructor Notes
Instructor credit: Diana Saldanha and Igor Angélico
Diana brought joy, energy and strong visual presence to the Zumba class. The room was full, the music was lively and the class had that mix of cardio, coordination and fun that makes Zumba feel like a real workout while still feeling playful.
She also created a class atmosphere where people were clearly enjoying themselves. The student interaction, music choices and full-room energy made the session feel complete.
Igor brought a different kind of energy to Body Pump. His class had intensity, structure and that familiar attention to detail that makes the whole experience feel more immersive. The warm-up already gave the warning that the workout would be serious, and the squat track confirmed it quickly.
The lighting, outfit and music choices also mattered. They gave the class personality and helped create the kind of atmosphere that makes you remember the session afterwards.

Is Zumba Before Body Pump a Good Combination?
For me, yes.
Zumba before Body Pump works because it lifts the mood, warms up the body and brings energy into the room before the strength work begins.
In this class, Zumba was full of cardio, coordination, rhythm and interaction. It was fun, but it was still work. That made it a strong opening class.
Body Pump afterwards changed the focus completely. The training became more structured, more muscular and more demanding, especially with squats, chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders and core.
Together, this combination gave me joy first, then strength work.
That is exactly why it worked.
How I Felt After Class
- Right after: I was sweaty, happy and buzzing with the energy that only back-to-back classes can give you.
- Later that day: tiredness settled in, but it was the good kind. The satisfied kind. The kind that tells you the work was real.
- The next morning: I could feel exactly where Body Pump had been. Full-body strength work has a way of reminding you it happened.
Final Thoughts
This was a very good Zumba and Body Pump training day.
Zumba gave me music, movement, coordination, fun and that full-room energy that makes the class feel alive. Diana’s presence and music choices made the session joyful from the start.
Body Pump gave me the strength challenge, the barbell work, the “are you serious?” moment and the reminder that sometimes staying at your current weight is the right decision.
The best part was the contrast between the two classes. One gave me freedom and rhythm. The other gave me structure and effort.
Together, they made a complete Saturday workout.
