This Zumba and Body Pump review is about returning to Saturday training with exactly the kind of class combination that makes the week feel complete.
I started with Zumba and Diana Saldanha, in a full room with music, student interaction, beautiful choreography and that rare feeling of disconnecting from everything just to dance. Right after that, I moved on to Body Pump with Igor Angélico, where the lunge track was brutal, the cool-down became the highlight, and I found out something that explained his perfect stretching technique.
It was joyful, intense and a very good return to my Saturday routine.
Quick Verdict
Zumba
- Intensity: 8 out of 10
- Good for: dance cardio, coordination, student interaction, mood, rhythm and mental release

Body Pump
- Intensity: 8.5 out of 10
- Good for: strength endurance, barbell work, lunges, full-body effort, stretching awareness and class atmosphere
- My after class mood: tired, amused, impressed and very focused on that cool-down moment

Track Your Body Pump Progress
Body Pump progress can be hard to see from one class to the next, especially when you are slowly changing weights, rebuilding confidence, or learning which tracks challenge you most.
I created the Barbell Class Progress Tracker for women who take Body Pump or other barbell based group fitness classes and want a simple printable way to record their weights, follow their progress, and stay consistent from class to class.
THE WORKOUT: ZUMBA + BODY PUMP
And today I returned to Saturday training! The week is not complete without “zumba-ing” and “body-pumping” on Saturdays!
I started with Zumba and Diana Saldanha. I was a little late and the class had already started. I stayed closer to the back. BUT, “what is meant for you will not be taken away” ! That is because some students were not sure where they wanted to stand and, suddenly, my favourite spot became empty! I took it immediately!
Diana was in a great mood and so were the students. Full room, good music, and off we went dancing!
Today was even better! We had THREE tracks with interaction between students, ALL the songs I like, and an intense workout.
I was so happy in class that it felt like I had travelled somewhere else! There was a moment when I disconnected from everything and simply danced. I REALLY love this class! Dancing is wonderful!
And, since I am not the only one, when Diana announced that we were moving on to the last track, someone asked, “Already?” I thought, “I know, right ? The good things always end too soon.”
The class was so much fun, with a lot of cardio work, beautiful choreographies, and a SUPER friendly instructor! Perfect!
Right after that, I had Body Pump with Igor Angélico.
I think that, while making today’s workout Story, I must have twisted my back in some strange way, because when I started the warm-up I felt a bit of discomfort. Adventures… But it has already passed!
Igor was, as always, in a very good mood. The extraordinary thing about Igor is that he manages to suffer with us and make us laugh with his suffering too. Because yes, we are not the only ones suffering. And he does not hide it !
The worst one today was definitely the lunge track ! Fortunately, we will not have that one for a while.
Today I want to focus on the cool-down. Since the very first Body Pump class I did with Igor, I noticed that he does the stretching movements perfectly.
Really, really WELL! Today I even had a little peek at his Downward Dog and… OMG! Perfection!
Well, at the end of the class, I found out that he used to be a gymnast . So, Igor has everything it takes to enter the Body Balance world. And, believe it or not
, he is not exactly interested in that. OMG
! Can you believe that? But anyway, there is no accounting for taste. Maybe one day…
Excellent class!
Good to be back! Perfect training week!
Instructor Notes
Instructor credit: Diana Saldanha and Igor Angélico
Diana made the Zumba class feel joyful, warm and completely alive. The room was full, the music worked, the student interaction was strong and the class had that rare effect where you stop thinking and simply dance.
That was the strongest part of the Zumba session. It was not only cardio or choreography. It was the feeling of being fully inside the moment.
Igor brought humour, energy and a very human kind of suffering to Body Pump. That matters because it makes the hard tracks feel shared, not lonely. The lunge track was clearly the hardest part of the class, but the cool-down became the moment that stayed with me.
His stretching technique made sense once I learned he used to be a gymnast. That detail added something memorable to the class, especially because I already associate him with strong movement quality during the final stretch.
Together, Diana and Igor made this feel like a proper return to Saturday training.
Is Zumba Before Body Pump a Good Combination?
For me, yes.
Zumba before Body Pump works well because it gives the training day joy, cardio and movement before the strength work begins.
In this class, Zumba gave me music, interaction, choreography and that feeling of travelling somewhere else for a while. It was intense, but emotionally light.
Body Pump afterwards changed the energy completely. The workout became heavier, more structured and more physically demanding, especially with the lunge track.
The combination worked because the first class lifted me up and the second class made me work.
For Saturday training, that is exactly the balance I like.
How I Felt After Class
- Right after: happy, tired and very glad to be back to Saturday training
- Later that day: satisfied, relaxed and amused by the whole Body Pump suffering situation
- Next day: I could feel the Body Pump effort, especially from the lunge track
Final Thoughts
This was a strong return to Saturday training.
Zumba gave me joy, music, cardio, beautiful choreography and one of those moments where I simply disconnected from everything and danced.
Body Pump gave me effort, humour, lunges, a small back scare that fortunately passed, and one of the most memorable cool-down observations I have had in class.
The contrast worked well: Zumba made me feel free, Body Pump reminded me that training still demands work.
A joyful, intense and very complete Saturday session.
