GAP class review after a glutes, abs and legs workout

This GAP class review covers one of those training days that changed tone before it even properly began.

In fitness, GAP usually refers to a workout focused on glutes, abdominals and legs, with targeted toning work for those areas.

That day, I arrived a little late and walked into an unexpected surprise: a different instructor.

When you get used to something, even a small change can throw you off. I genuinely thought I had walked into the wrong studio for a second. The GAP class was taught by Lwaya Serodio, and everything felt slightly out of place from the start.

Still, the class delivered exactly what the day called for.

Squats, lunges, step work, a lot of glute burn, good pressure from the instructor, and that very specific feeling of leaving with your lower body fully aware that it has worked.

So yes, this became a proper booty training day.

Quick Verdict

  • Intensity: 7.5 out of 10
  • Good for: glute work, leg endurance, lower-body toning, class variety and days when you want targeted effort
  • My after class mood: surprised, worked, amused and very aware of my glutes

Class Snapshot

  • Class type: GAP, a targeted class for glutes, abs and legs.
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Format: lower-body focused class with squats, lunges, step work and repeated targeted effort for the glutes and legs
  • Equipment: step, towel, water bottle and training shoes
  • Instructor style: Lwaya pushed hard, added personality and even threw in some dance flair
  • My focus today: survive the surprise, slot into the choreography and get through the glute work without complaint
  • What stood out: a different instructor, feeling strange at first, ending up at the back, and leaving with seriously burning glutes

The Workout

GAP class review after a glutes, abs and legs workout

Today I arrived a little late, and when I walked into the room, I spotted a different instructor. When you’re so used to something, even a small change throws you off. I won’t lie — I genuinely thought I was in the wrong studio 😅. The GAP class was taught by instructor Lwaya Serodio.

I quickly grabbed a step and tried to slot myself into the choreography. Everything felt off today 😅 — I ended up at the back. I really don’t like that. But hey, should’ve arrived earlier! 😆

The GAP class had all the usual squats, lunges, and a LOT of glute work! I don’t even need to say it: the Universe somehow made sure that even with a different instructor, the workout still delivered exactly what my day called for — BOOTY TRAINING DAY! 😄

We got an instructor who pushed us hard, threw in some dance flair (not my fault 😅 — I said nothing… but I LOVED it 😅🙌🏾), and sent us out of there with seriously burning glutes. 🙌🏾

After that, I decided to skip the next class. I remembered tracks 2 and 4 from this new CORE release and decided not to risk it. Without Igor Angélico? Nope. I did hesitate — I thought it might be Maria João Lopes (she’s also brilliant at making us feel that perfect mix of suffering and joy 😊) — but since she doesn’t usually teach on Fridays, I chose to go for a coffee with the lovely Rita Resende instead. And, of course, save my energy for Zumba and Body Pump tomorrow. 💪🏾🔥

Instructor Notes

Instructor credit: Lwaya Serodio

This class worked because, even though the instructor change felt strange at first, Lwaya clearly knew how to keep the room moving and working.

She pushed hard, kept the energy up, and added enough personality to make the class feel memorable rather than flat.

That matters in a format like GAP.

Because a class built around repeated lower-body effort can become boring very quickly if the instructor does not carry it properly.

That did not happen here.

How I Felt After Class

  • Right after: slightly thrown off, but satisfied and very aware of the glute work
  • Later that day: amused by how the class turned around after the awkward start
  • What stayed with me most: the instructor surprise, the strange beginning, and walking out with burning glutes

Final Thoughts

This GAP class started with doubt and ended exactly how a good lower-body class should end: with effort, with burn, and with that feeling that the session did what it came to do.

The different instructor threw me off at first, and I did not love arriving late and ending up at the back. But once the class got going, it still delivered a proper glutes, abs and legs workout.

So yes, this was a real booty training day.

Unexpected at the beginning.

Absolutely valid by the end.
