This was Recovery Day 6, and it did not look polished at all. It was rainy, muddy, a bit chaotic and exactly the kind of day that could have made me stay home.
Instead, I went for my recovery walk anyway. And that made this day more useful than perfect.
This post is part of my Recovery Journey series, where I’m documenting what recovery looked like day by day and what it really takes to stay consistent in normal life.

A real recovery walk in the rain
On Day 6, recovery happened outside. I headed to Estádio Universitário de Lisboa for a walk, even with the rain. The ground was muddy, the stairs were slippery and the whole thing felt more like an adventure than a neat recovery session.
But that is exactly why it mattered. Recovery has to work in real life, not only in perfect conditions.

Rain, mud, stairs and still moving
This was not a clean, easy walk. There were puddles, uneven ground and enough drama in the water for me to joke about crocodiles. But I kept walking, climbing and moving for around 30 minutes, without rushing and without turning it into a performance.
That kind of session matters because it builds trust in movement under normal conditions, not only controlled ones.
A bit of tension, but nothing serious
I did feel a bit of tension in my right knee, and I paid attention to it. But it did not feel serious, and it did not turn the walk into a bad session.
That is one of the lessons recovery keeps teaching me: noticing something in the body does not always mean stopping in fear. Sometimes it means adjusting, staying aware and continuing with common sense.
Why this walk still counted
Day 6 reminded me that a recovery session does not need to be perfect to be valuable. It just needs to be honest, safe enough and aligned with where the body is that day.
I did not chase speed, distance or some polished version of discipline. I showed up, moved and came back feeling good afterwards. That counts.
The food that kept the day steady

Breakfast: simple and focused
Breakfast stayed simple and steady: eggs, avocado, a few strawberries and coffee. The kind of meal that supports energy without noise.

Lunch and dinner: low carb and easy
Lunch and dinner were built around leftover bacalhau com natas with a fresh tomato and avocado salad on the side. It was one of those simple meals that feels comforting without being heavy, and practical enough for a recovery day.
With water and a strong shot of coffee alongside it, the whole meal felt easy, satisfying and fully aligned with the kind of steady energy I wanted that day.
What Day 6 showed me
Day 6 reminded me that recovery is not about waiting for ideal conditions. It is about staying in relationship with the process, even when the day is wet, messy or inconvenient.
I walked in the rain, respected my body, noticed the small tension in my knee and still came home feeling better. That is the kind of consistency I trust.
Recovery is not built only on good days. It is also built on days like this one.
